FAQ

• How will my gift be used to support Lyric?

  Name a seat gifts will be earmarked for Lyric’s new Experience Improvements Fund, which improves and modernizes the audience experience while preserving the integrity and historic beauty of the Lyric Opera House.

• Where will the plaque be installed on my seat?

  Your plaque will be installed on the right-hand armrest of the seat you name. Plaques for box seats are installed on the backside of the chair.

• Can I make my gift in installments?

  Lyric gratefully accepts gifts made in payments that are comfortable and convenient for you. Whether you are paying in monthly, quarterly, or annual installments, we only ask that you fulfill your pledge within three years.

  Work with our Donor Engagement staff to prepare an installment plan by calling 312.827.5686. Your plaque will be installed after receipt of your first payment and signed gift agreement.

• If I name a seat online, will you call me for my preferred inscription?

  Of course, we will! We’ll call to thank you, first, but then we will discuss your preferred plaque inscription.

• How many characters can fit on a plaque? How large is the plaque?

  Your plaque is about 2”x4” and can accommodate up to three lines of 15 characters, including spaces.

• How can I name a seat if I prefer to give over the phone or by mail?

  Contact our Donor Engagement staff to name your seat by calling 312.827.5686.

  If you’d prefer to give by mail, please send your gift to Lyric Opera of Chicago, attn: Development, 20 N Wacker Dr Ste 860, Chicago, IL 60606. Please include your preferred plaque inscription and your preferred seat with your contribution.

• How will my Name a Seat gifts be recognized within Boxes?

  Your plaque will be installed onto the seat of your choosing. Though chairs in our boxes are movable, we will do our best to ensure your named seat stays in place.

• I’m naming a seat in honor of a loved one. Will you notify them?

  We would gladly notify this person of your gift. If you provide us with the honoree’s address, we will send a greeting card on your behalf.

• HOW Can I Name a Box in the Mezzanine?

  The option to Name a Box is reserved to recognize transformational contributions of $1 million or more. To inquire about box naming options, please contact our Principal Giving team at 312.827.5679.
